Bio
Born in Dublin, Roland was the creative director at Metro Advertising PLC
and a popular broadcaster in the radio industry.
He now paints full time from his home studio in Co. Carlow.
Roland brings you to a rich atmospheric and semi abstract world. Vast landscapes
strong in colour and contrast yet with equally quiet passages allow the viewer to engage
with his paintings on many different levels. Fragmented busy streetscapes full of
colour, light and shadows convey the atmosphere and mystery of local and iconic cities.

"In 1996 a young emerging artist made a significant debut onto the Irish art scene when he hung his first paintings on the Parade at Butler Castle during the Kilkenny Arts Festival. His impromptu "outdoor exhibition" was a success, people were captivated - watercolour paintings but with a difference. Roland Byrne had more than illustrated a scene, he had created a moment and an atmosphere.
Now working full time from his studio in Carlow, Roland specialises in unique watercolour and oil landscape paintings. His work is a combination of traditional fine art techniques coupled with his own innovative methods which bring the viewer into a rich atmospheric, rustic and often semi abstract world.
Collections include many high profile celebrities, international fashion designers and sports stars. His work is published in numerous books and is also held in Irish Government Offices.
This August Roland returns to where it all began Kilkenny Arts Festival. He will show a collection of his latest watercolour and oil paintings at the premises of his long time framer
and good friend Paul Campion."
